Inef is a specialized insect-farming company established in 2018 in Italy. Edible insects can be used for producing meal for protein feed for domestic and farm animals, and their frass (excreta) can be employed to produce fertilising compost and pellets.

While current legislation in Italy does not yet allow insects to be sold for human consumption, the market for edible insects appears as an opportunity in a sector still in its infancy: human food of the future could well include insects for several good reasons.
Insects are fully environment-friendly and are an excellent source of high-quality protein, fibre and minerals such as Calcium and Iron (over twice as much iron as spinach), and of vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids.
